Enjoy Baton Rouge connects visitors to Downtown Baton Rouge's past, present and future through tours that are fun, informative, entertaining and fun! Okay, I said fun twice - walking tours really are fun!
In 2017 encouraged by friends and others in Louisiana tourism I decided to plunge into this opportunity to do what I really enjoyed. I grew up in the Capital City. In 2004 with my wife and children, I moved to Memphis, Tennessee. In 2012 I returned with a new appreciation for my hometown.
Working as a chauffeur I took thousands of guests to sites around town. Giving mini-tours while traversing the town I would notice how visitors would be engaged and more animated during the tour. They started to see the River City through new eyes.
Between 2012 and 2016 I drove representatives from the Louisiana Department of Tourism around the state and started to feel the draw of tourism. In September of 2017 while visiting in Chicago struck by the many ways visitors can enjoy a town and believed there was an opportunity for tremendous growth locally. In 2018 for our anniversary my wife and I went on a food tour in Lafayette and experienced how wonderful that was.
So, my drive is to show off our downtown in ways that are personal, fun, comprehensive, historically accurate and enjoyable. I'm active, constantly learning more about the city, keeping up with what's changing and being part of the community.
The goal is to show Downtown Baton Rouge to 1000+ visitors each year. When we reach that mark Enjoy Baton Rouge will just be beginning to repay the city for what it's given me.
Baton Rouge native!
As someone looking to move to Baton Rouge, John was able to give my mother and I a history lesson while showing us interesting and important sites. We wish that we had longer to spend listening to him, as he is clearly very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about sharing Louisiana history!
John was a great guide with deep knowledge of the city and filled us in with a lot of background as we moved among the restaurants. The food selection prepared by the restaurants we visited worked well across the various places and we felt we received a good variety of choices from appetizers to dessert. We especially liked Cocha and would have eaten there again if our stay had been longer. Had a great conversation with John throughout the evening and he even walked us back to where we were staying given the "food stupor" we were in from all the great food. Would highly recommend
Fantastic Tour! It exceeded my expectations. The places were really good surprises and you know some stuff.
John was an excellent guide taking us on a walk through the notable spots inside the capitol building and the surrounding neighborhoods. Great stories and an easy pace.
We had the best time with John on our food tour earlier this week. You can tell he loves Baton Rouge and has spent a lot of time researching the area. The food was fabulous as well. I would definitely recommend booking a tour with him if you are going to be in the area
I took the tour and had high expectations. I was hungry and looked forward to trying a variety of different foods along the way. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!!! I've lived in Baton Rouge for 40 years and the tours also enlightened me on things I did not know about our city. John was excellent and I highly recommend everyone take the Walking Food Tour!!!!
You get a lot of food for the price. We visited five different restaurants with a big variety of food. Very delicious. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of downtown Baton Rouge, the buildings, and Louisiana. You can tell the tour guide loves his job.
John was an outstanding tour guide! His knowledge of the town of Baton Rouge from inception to present day was truly amazing and his presentation was both informative and interesting. We truly enjoyed our time with him. Would strongly recommend to participate in both tours as you will gain much insight to past and present day Baton Rouge. My husband and i have traveled the country extensively and would rate this tour in our top ten!!
John was a great host! We enjoyed learning about the history of Baton Rouge while sampling some of the local cuisine. It was a great mix of traditional offerings and some of the new restaurants in the area. We were glad we booked the tour and would highly recommend it to visitors of the city!
Fantastic variety of food and great historic stories. A great outing for the family.
Visited my brother & sister-in-law this week. They recently moved to Baton Rouge so we decided to do a tour. I'm so glad we did. It was great to hear the history and see the city. John was great! He met us with bottled water and even provided masks (for the building the required it) because we had forgotten ours.
John was a fabulous guide on my walking tour! He was knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. I would highly recommend the walking tour to anyone visiting Baton Rouge.
